Annie Oakley

“What’s that supposed to be?” asked Jack, the farm hand.

Annie looked up from her needles and yarn. She was trying to knit a sweater. Instead, it looked like a giant ball of knots.

Annie always tried her best. Her family didn’t have much money. She wanted to help but Annie wasn’t very good at her chores.

When Annie cooked dinner, she would burn the food.

When Annie did the wash, the clothes did not get very clean.

And when Annie tried to knit…

Annie looked at the sweater she had made. It was a mess. Jack laughed at her.

Angry, Annie threw a ball of yarn at Jack. She knocked the hat right off Jack’s head! “I’m just tryin’ to help!” Annie yelled.
