Ramayana: Ram's First Battle

Once upon a time, in the far away land of Ayodhya, a prince was born. He was called Ram.

From the day he was born his mother knew that he was very special. You see, Ram looked different from everyone else. He was blue!

Ram loved all of his brothers. But as he grew up, Ram was especially close to his brother Lakshman.

The two were always together and loved going on adventures in the forest.

As they got older, Ram and his brothers studied very hard. They studied math, science, meditation, and the art of war.

Ram was particularly gifted with the bow and arrow. No one could match his skill.

One day a sage, or wise man, came to the palace to ask the king for help.

“A demon has invaded my temple,” the sage said. “I have seen the future, and only your son Ram can help me.”

Ram was surprised. He had never even seen a demon before.

“I don’t know how to fight a demon,” Ram said. “We should send the army instead.”

“If you send the army, all will be lost,” the sage pleaded. “It must be you, Ram.”
