The Pomegranate Seeds

“Rachel,” grandmother calls. “Come and help me.”

Rachel puts down her Torah. She’s been studying all day. She is trying to learn all the commandments.

Rachel gets up from the table. She kisses her grandmother on the cheek.

“Hi Bubbeh. How can I help?” Rachel asks.

“I am making our break fast meal for Yom Kippur,” she says. “Help me with the pomegranate, please? We need to take out all the seeds. Like this…”

She carefully peels the seeds away from the skin. She puts them into a bowl.
