The Shepherd Boy’s Gift

Once upon a time there was a small boy. He lived in a poor village near Bethlehem.

He was kind and worked hard and always tried to do his best. He spent his days caring for sheep in the meadow.

The boy did not have many things. He had a flute his father had carved from a single piece of wood. He had a blanket his mother had woven from scraps of wool.

Best of all, he had his dog. He loved her with all of his heart.

The boy was grateful for all that he had.

One night, the boy lay in the grass. He looked up and saw a bright, beautiful star.

He heard that a special baby had been born in Bethlehem. It was said that the baby carried great love in his heart. It was said that the baby was so close to God that starlight followed him.
