The Wizard of Oz Part 3 Kansas at Last

After defeating the Wicked Witch of the West, a winged monkey flew Dorothy and Toto away from the Witch’s castle.

In the forest they found Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion.

They all flew back to the great Emerald City.

Dorothy and her friends went straight to the Wizard. Dorothy held the broom up for all to see.

“The Wicked Witch of the West is gone,” Dorothy said. “Give us what you promised.”

“I do not remember a promise,” said the giant green head of the Wizard. “Go away.”

Lion became very mad. He let out a loud roar. Toto jumped back and knocked over a curtain in the corner of the room.

Behind the curtain was a short old man. He was pulling levers and pushing buttons.

“Who are you?” asked the Tin Man.

“They call me the Wizard of Oz,” the man said. “But I’m not a wizard at all. I was blown here in a hot air balloon long ago.”

“Everyone thinks I have powers,” he continued, “but I don’t. It’s all just a trick.”

“So you can’t help us?” Dorothy asked. “You can’t give Scarecrow a brain to think? You can’t give Tin Man a heart to feel? And you can’t give Lion courage to be brave?”

“And you can’t send Dorothy home?” Tin Man asked. He was so sad he started to cry.
