Feelin' the Beat: A Buddy Bolden Story

“Boooo!” yelled the crowd.

A tomato sailed through the air and hit the cornet player. Another bounced off the bass.

Soon the crowd left and the three band members were alone in the room. They shook their heads.

“Even I can’t stand our playin’,” Hattie the heron said, wiping tomato off her bass.

“We know the songs! What are we doin’ wrong?” Louie the bullfrog asked.

Hattie and Andy the Alligator hung their heads. Music was meant to be fun, but this wasn’t fun!

Andy and Hattie began to pack up their things. Louie slumped next to the piano bench.

“All I want to do is play music and have some fun,” Louie sighed.

Louie closed his eyes. He listened to the hum of the stage lights.

Then his eyes popped open!
