Johnny Appleseed and the Bear

Long ago there lived a man who loved everything apple: apple pie, apple juice, apple jam, and apple cider.

He walked from town to town. He planted apple trees of every kind.

He gave everyone he saw a sweet and crunchy apple.

Everybody loved Johnny Appleseed.

One day Johnny arrived in a new town.

“Hello!” he cried. “Johnny Appleseed is here! Apples for everyone.”

But instead of coming out to greet him, the people ran away.

“What’s wrong?” Johnny asked. “Don’t you people like apples? They’re mighty tasty!”

Johnny walked up to a group of kids.

“Ahhh!” they cried. They dove into the bushes.
