The Knight's First Day

Peter was a farmhand, but he dreamed of becoming a brave knight.

One day, a messenger from the king’s palace made an announcement. New knights were needed to defend the kingdom. Anyone was welcome to apply.

Peter signed up immediately.

Sir Steven was in charge of training the new recruits. On the first day, he took them to the stables.

“Who needs to learn how to ride a horse?” Sir Steven asked.

Peter raised his hand. But no one else did. So he quickly lowered his.

Sir Steven then took the recruits to the armory. “Does everyone know how to joust and select the proper size armor?” he asked. They all nodded.

Peter was too embarrassed to admit that he didn’t know how, so he nodded, too.
