The Traveling Donkey

A father, his son, and their donkey were going on a long trip. They had already walked for many days and they were all getting very tired.

“How much farther?” the donkey asked.

“It’s still another few days,” said the father.

That morning, they passed another traveler riding on a horse.

“Why don’t you ride on your donkey’s back?” the traveler asked. “That’s what donkeys are for!”

The father thought that was a good idea so he put his son on the donkey’s back. The boy was heavy.

“Oh, great,” the donkey thought. “I wish I didn’t have to walk.”

Then he smiled because he had an idea.
