Bummer and Lazarus

Lazarus hid behind some crates. He watched the baker load his delivery cart.

Lazarus sniffed the air and wagged his tail. The bread smelled so good. Lazarus was hungry.

When the baker went inside, Lazarus stole some bread from the cart.

Lazarus didn’t like stealing. But begging didn’t work. Nobody liked dogs in San Francisco.

Lazarus ran into an alley behind the lunch shop. He couldn’t wait to eat his bread.

“Grrrrrr…” A big, mean dog snarled at Lazarus. “Drop that bread.”
