Dallas, Dog Detective: The Case of the Tumbling Bunny

This is a quiet place. Everything is nice and easy. Children play in the park and walk to school. Adults go to work and come home to a warm house. There is peace in the streets – usually.

When there is trouble, the humans go to the police. The pets come to me. I’m Dallas, Dog Detective.

While heading home for an afternoon nap, I watched as a bee bumbled around the blossoms in front of me. Benny, my partner, went inside to look for a snack. It was 3:48 pm.

That’s when I saw her. Her silky fur bounced up and down with her steps, as if in slow motion. She dodged and weaved her way through people, not stopping once to be pet.

She came to my porch – um, I mean – my office. I sat up straight and looked into her deep, dark eyes.

“OK, lady. How can I help you?” I used my most professional voice.

“It’s terrible, just terrible!” she cried. “I don’t know what to do.” Her chin quivered.

I let out a low growl, “Let’s start at the beginning. What’s your name?”

She took a deep breath. “My name is Goldie. My human is Anna. It started this morning. Anna was looking under the bed. Then she rushed to the closet. And – ” Goldie let out a yelp. “Shoes were flying everywhere!”

“There’s no need for hysterics, Ms. Goldie,” I said, handing the dog a hanky.

“Anna lost her favorite stuffy,” Goldie said.

“Her favorite stuffy?” I asked. “By golly. I hope it’s not her – ”

“Bunny!” Goldie screeched, nodding.
