Three Greedy Mice

One summer, a mighty rain swept through the forest. It created a long, wide river that divided the north woods from the south woods.

Papa bears were separated from mama bears. Brother weasels were separated from sister weasels. The woodland creatures could not cross the rushing waters.

Everyone was worried about the fate of the Great Woods. Everyone except Bright Mouse, Fright Mouse, and Not Quite Mouse.

The three spent their days thinking of ways to get rich without doing any work.

One day, the ground shook violently beneath their feet. CRASH!

“The sky is falling!” Not Quite Mouse cried.

“The world is ending!” Fright Mouse wailed.

Creatures on both sides of the river came running. They wanted to see what made the noise.
