The Mongoose and the Cobra

Long ago, Deva and his wife, Asha, lived on a farm in India.

They had a beautiful new baby named Rishi. They loved him very much.

The family had chickens to lay eggs and a cow to give milk. But Deva also wanted an animal to protect the boy.

One day, Deva brought home a mongoose.

Deva was fond of the friendly animal. Rishi loved the mongoose too. The animal’s bushy tail fascinated the infant. Rishi always giggled at the furry creature.

Deva named the mongoose Mitul, or friend.
