Suan's Good Luck

Suan waved goodbye to his mother. He was leaving their home for school.

But Suan didn’t walk to school. Instead, he climbed a large willow tree at the end of the street.

Suan had started reading a book that morning at home. He didn’t want to wait until after school to learn how the story ended.

He settled onto his favorite branch and opened his book.

Suan was up in the tree until late afternoon. He saw his mother return from work. She was carrying a bag of groceries. When she walked under the tree, Suan could see she had bought lemons, dill, and fish.

Suan waved goodbye to a cockatiel sitting on a nearby branch and climbed down. The cockatiel belonged to his friend, Chesa.
